Yorktown Institute – Year in Review

Dear Friends and Supporters,

As our fourth calendar year of operations begins, we at Yorktown Institute would like to express our gratitude for your continued engagement and support. Thanks to you, our organization has expanded its influence and reached new milestones. If you have time, we would greatly appreciate you completing our brief three question survey so that we may continue to improve.

This year, we welcomed Admiral Gary Roughead (Ret.) and James A. Kraehenbuehl, Esq. to our Board of Directors, as well as Lord Andrew Roberts and former National Security Advisor, Lieutenant General H. R. McMaster (Ret.), to our Advisory Board. We also mourned the loss of our dear friend and founding member, Senator Joseph I. Lieberman.

Our affiliates have published or contributed to several books, monographs, reports, and white papers, including:

• At War with Ourselves: My Tour of Duty in the Trump White House (H. R. McMaster)
• A Strategic Concept for the United States Merchant Marine (Seth Cropsey and Harry Halem)
• The Boiling Moat: Urgent Steps to Defend Taiwan (Edited by Matt Pottinger)
• “From Synergy to Strategy in the Black Sea Region: Assessing Opportunities and Challenges” (Grant W. Turner and Seth Cropsey)
• “Strategic Commentaries: Essays about the UK, NATO, China, Russia, North Korea and Iran”(Gabriel Elefteriu)

Yorktown leadership, Fellows, and Research Assistants have also published or been cited in well over 100 articles, in outlets such as The Wall Street Journal, Newsweek, The Hill, The National Interest, The Telegraph, The Atlantic, Asia Times, Kyiv Post, Japan Forward, Center for Strategic and International Studies, U.S. Naval Institute, Oxford Diplomatic Society, and Center for European Policy Analysis.

These have concerned topics such as US strategy, the dire state of the US maritime industry, the US Marine Corps use of artificial intelligence, how Trump can best negotiate an end to Russia’s war on Ukraine, the pros and cons of deploying non-combat NATO soldiers in Ukraine, Iran’s colonialism, the Hezbollah-Iran-Russia axis against the US, Turkey’s nuclear ambitions, US-Armenian relations, PRC political subversion in Taiwan, China’s land-bridge through Thailand, Washington’s relationships with South Pacific nations, the economic policies of Argentina’s President Milei, nuclear weapons in space, and the role of price floors in critical mineral security.

Additionally, Yorktown’s affiliates continue to participate in or host a wide variety of documentaries, panels, events, interviews, and podcasts. These include Matthew Pottinger’s appearance in Frontline PBS’s Xi Jinping documentary, Hoover Institution’s “Secrets of Statecraft with Andrew Roberts” and “Battlegrounds with H. R. McMaster,”  Law and Liberty’s “Liberty Law Talk with Rebecca Burgess,” Michael DiCianna’s presentation about his trip to the front lines of Ukraine at The Institute of World Politics’ Chancellor’s Council Annual Meeting, Seth Cropsey’s presentation on global maritime strategy at a Limes conference in Rome (panels one and two), his interview with Radio Taiwan International (English), and George E. Bogden’s “Clearer Than Truth Podcast.”
